There are born leaders and born followers. Without good managers the followers would have no one to follow. What makes a good manager? Is a person just born with these skills or must they be worked on? A solid foundation of certain characteristics can be helpful but some people can learn to be a good manager from experience and working with a manager that possessed high qualities.

A good manager can motivate people to work harder, faster and more efficiently. Those under poor management may not feel the drive to perform in order to appease their manager.
Along with being a good motivator, a manager should have good leadership skills. There are many qualities of a good leader. A good leader can work with a person's strengths and weaknesses and appoint certain work to them. A good leader can help improve a person's weaknesses.
When a manager is over many people time management is important. Not only does a manager need to get their work done, they need to manage their team and make sure they are working efficiently. Having several people work on the same assignment requires a lot of time management skills. Perhaps one person can't start on their part until someone else is finished with theirs. This is where a good manager with excellent time management skills comes in.
In order for the company to continue to be successful, the manager must have the company's best interest in mind when making decisions. Some employees are there only for the paycheck and don't care about the welfare of the company. A good manager will set goals that will help improve the overall success of the business. |
